‘No Tent Left Behind’ Campaign Promotes Festival Sustainability

by | 10 June 2024

Decathlon, a retail giant with 50 branches across the UK, has announced an initiative aimed at reducing environmental waste during the music festival season. Festival attendees who return their used tents will receive a full refund in the form of a gift card. This offer is valid until September 13 and applies to ten of Decathlon’s most popular tent models, with the highest-priced tent eligible for the refund being a four-person model costing £119.

Chris Allen, Sustainability Leader at Decathlon UK, highlighted the success of a similar scheme introduced last year, where all returned tents were refurbished and resold. The current campaign, named “No Tent Left Behind,” aims to further encourage sustainable behaviors among festival goers.

Broadcaster Jo Whiley endorsed the campaign, emphasizing its benefits for both the environment and festival enthusiasts.

Jo Whiley commented: “Decathlon’s ‘No Tent Left Behind’ campaign is a great reminder to festival goers to make sure they enjoy their experience, but in a sustainable way.  And you can even make some money to shop!”

Returned tents will be cleaned and resold, contributing to reduced single-use consumption. The initiative addresses the substantial waste problem, with approximately 250,000 tents ending up in landfills each year.
